Must-Know Networking Tips for Success to Try Out at Our Next Networking Social
The Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to host monthly networking socials at the Lake of the Ozarks. This gives our member businesses the chance to mingle with fellow members and other community leaders. Networking can seem intimidating but we're providing you with some tips to make you feel more at ease as you join us for our next social on November 17th.
November Networking Social Details:
Our next social is an exciting one at JB Hooks on November 17th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. We invite you and anyone you would like to bring to our social! You should also bring any young professionals you know to check out our Young Professionals at the Lake membership drive. We look forward to seeing you there!
Top Networking Tips:
Arrive Early
Walking into a crowded room full of people already networking and chatting with others can seem very intimidating. That's why arriving early is key! If you are one of the first people to arrive, you can start greeting other attendees as they enter the room. Also, our Lake Area Chamber staff is always ready to invite everyone into the social and make everyone feel welcome!
Make Eye Contact & Smile
Looking someone in the eye and offering a nice smile can help immediately break the ice. This small gesture can make you seem more approachable, therefore more likely for a fellow networking to come up to you and start asking about you and your business. And don't be afraid to go up to and introduce yourself to others. We promise after the initial ice breaks, it's much more comfortable for everyone to chat and get to know one another.
Keep Your Cards Handy
Business cards are a staple for any networking event. When you meet someone new, you can quickly and conveniently exchange contact information via a business card. A tip for handing out business cards is to make a natural part of your conversation. Consider asking someone new you have met and are chatting with for their card first. It may seem off-putting to some if you just walk around the room and shove cards in everyone's hand.
Relax
Networking can seem scary but at the end of the day, everyone in the room is there to network and be more connected with others at the Lake of the Ozarks. There is some comfort in knowing that you are all in the same boat!
We understand that not everyone is ready to shake hands and give out hugs just yet. We have created a bracelet system and we have different color armbands available at all of our chamber events. You can feel comfortable in choosing your color to give a non-verbal cue about your level of comfort with being around others at our event.
Now that you know some networking tips, you can try them out at our next networking event at JB Hooks. Bring your friends and co-workers for a memorable night at an amazing restaurant! Our Lake Area Chamber looks forward to seeing you there!
