Lake Area Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for Lake Regional Cancer Center

The Lake Area Chamber recently held a ribbon cutting for Lake Regional Cancer Center’s new state-of-the-art linear accelerator, the ribbon cutting ceremony took place during their open house, where attendees had the opportunity join in the celebration and tour the remodeled Cancer Center.

The Elekta Infinity linear accelerator enables therapists to focus higher radiation doses on targeted cells, while minimizing doses to surrounding healthy tissue. Although this is the same kind of treatment — intensity modulated radiation therapy — delivered by the Cancer Center’s previous linear accelerator, the new accelerator offers enhanced imaging and greater speed, both of which improve accuracy and further limit radiation to healthy tissue.

“Cancer treatments continuously improve as breakthroughs are made in research and in technology,” said Gregory Biedermann, M.D., a radiation oncologist at Lake Regional Cancer Center. “At Lake Regional, we’re proud that our patients are benefiting from those breakthroughs.”

Lake Regional Cancer Center offers a range of services to treat the whole person — not just the disease. These services include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, nutrition therapy, palliative care, support groups, resource navigation and educational classes. Lake Regional Cancer Center treats many types of cancer, including bladder, breast, colon, lung, lymphoma and prostate cancers. To learn more, visit www.lakeregional.com/cancercare.
