Stress Management Tips for Professionals

Everyone has to deal with stress. Even people who seem to have it all together have stress in their lives. Managing your stress is a key for success, especially for business professionals in the area. Since our Lake Area Chamber is here for local businesses, we want to help provide some stress management techniques you can start implementing in your everyday life right away - both in your personal and professional life.

This week, the Young Professionals at the Lake hosted a Lunch and Learn session that focused on stress by Billye Bennett with Lake Regional Health Systems. In case you missed it, we've decided to recap some helpful tips in this week's blog!

Stress Management Tips:

1) Change Your Attitude

A positive outlook on each situation can help improve how you feel about stress. A moderate amount of stress is actually a good thing - it keeps you on your toes and at peak performance. Instead of focusing on the negative, change your attitude to a positive outlook. This alone can help improve your home and work life in a hurry!

2) Focus on What You CAN Control

No matter how hard you try, you cannot control your surroundings - whether it's people, your environment, or the weather. You CAN control how you let these outside factors affect you though. You make a decision each time a situation comes up on how you will react. Try to keep a level head and think through a situation before you have a knee-jerk reaction. If you take time to focus on what you can control - your reactions and how YOU feel about something - you may start noticing a less stressful demeanor.

3) Change Your Situation

If you are unhappy or stressed about a situation - change it. Be a problem solver when it comes time to handle a situation. Instead of taking time to complain about something that is happening, try to be proactive and create a plan on how to handle or change it. You are in control of your life - if you don't like something you have the right to do something about it.

4) Don't Fall Into A Stress Trap

A stress trap can happen if you have a preconceived idea of how something will play out. A misconception about how a situation will take place can be stressful. Misspending is another stress trap. Whether it's time, money, or energy - try to avoid misspending in your life. Overcontrol is a third stress-trap you should avoid. You cannot control outside factors and accepting that can help to reduce the amount of stress you experience.

Find What Works for YOU:

Everyone has a different way to cope with stress in their lives. Whether it's mental, emotional, or physical stress - you have to find a way to combat your stress in a healthy way. There are no quick fixes when it comes to stress management - it's important to find a coping mechanism that fits your personal needs!

After learning about these stress management techniques, you can start implementing them into your daily life. Whether its work, family, or other factors that cause stress - it's all about how you react to it. Try to look for the positive in each situation and remain in control of your emotions.
